Job Overview: Metro Police Trainee
As part of the Metro Policing Training Programme, selected candidates will undergo an 18-month structured training programme to prepare them for a role as Metro Police Officers. During training, a monthly stipend will be provided, with the amount determined by the department.
Trainees will be developed into competent officers responsible for enforcing the National Road Traffic Act, municipal by-laws, and crime prevention. Upon successful completion of the training, candidates will be deployed to carry out one or more of the following roles:
- Traffic policing and road safety enforcement
- Enforcement of municipal by-laws and regulations
- Community-based crime prevention
Minimum Requirements and Selection Criteria
To be considered for the position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- A valid Grade 12 certificate (proof required)
- A valid driving licence for manual transmission vehicles
- No criminal record or pending criminal cases (fingerprint screening required)
- Clean record on the sexual or child offender registers and no history of dismissal for misconduct in government service
- South African citizenship and proof of residence within the City of Tshwane (affidavit required if surname differs from property owner)
- Age between 18 and 35 years
- Physically and medically fit (medical certificate required)
- Willingness to undergo a physical fitness test and psychometric assessment
- Proficiency in English and ability to pass a language assessment
- No visible tattoos when wearing a full-service uniform
- Must not be declared incompetent to possess a firearm in terms of the Firearms Control Act
- Willingness to sign the Tshwane Metro Police Department’s code of conduct
